The NIR5 Long Range Illuminator is designed for long-range identification in total darkness. It uses a laser diode array
to create a divergent beam which paints IR illumination onto the target. When used with a compatible wavelength
camera significant detail can be realised in total darkness.
Used with a suitable camera, the NIR5 can enable the capture of real-time, high-performance video at night, at up to five km, with
usable illumination levels out to 15km.
The NIR5 is available in a number of wavelengths to suit specific applications.
The use of active illumination at long range has significant tactical benefits, but may require local approvals for its use. The IR illumination is not eye-safe at close range and hence can only be used where there is no possibility that anyone
can look into the beam. However, the output power may be decreased from its maximum when operating at close
range.
